Mt. Kilimanjaro for Human Rights
A group of twenty are climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in July next year to support human rights (Amnesty International)
This team is full, but there are many other amazing local schools etc. that you can support by climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro - here are a few -
http://www.kiliproject.org/sponsored-climbs - raises money for Village Education Project Kilimanjaro which is dedicated to improving education and reducing rural poverty in the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania.
http://amanikids.org/kilimanjaro-climb-for-kids - raises money for Amani Children’s Home. They are "committed to reducing the number of children living on the streets in Tanzania by providing a nurturing place for homeless children to heal, grow, and learn."
http://peacehouseafrica.org/trek.html - raises money for Peace House Africa - creating a brighter future for Africa’s orphans, vulnerable children and their communities through nurturing care, dynamic education, technology research and business development.
If you would like to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, I highly suggest one of these organisations - you will find that the costs are maybe 1/2 that of a traditional volotourism group and the money goes towards local ngos, meaning that costs are often much lower and knowledge much higher.
If you would like to know more about local ngos in Tanzania that you can climb for please feel free to email me at belinda@pinskier.com
