Climb For Change Officially Launches on International Mountain Day - 12.11.10

New online social network seeks to inspire people to climb the mountains in their lives

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Vancouver, B.C. (December 11, 2010)Climb For Change, a new Vancouver-based social enterprise, announces the launch of its online news and story-sharing network that seeks to inspire people to climb the mountains in their lives. The official launch coincides with the International Mountain Day on December 11, as declared by the United Nations.

“Every day, we come across individuals who are taking action to climb, trek or hike to make a difference,” says co-founder and mountaineer Mike Schauch. “There are virtually hundreds of hikes, treks and climbs for change happening around the world, but no one place to capture and share the experiences, stories and lessons learned.”

Climb For Change is about bringing these climbing-inspired stories to the forefront - whether it’s a personal climb, a climb for a friend, family, or community, or a climb for the larger humanitarian and environmental challenges we face. People have stories to share; others can learn and benefit from these experiences, and get inspired to take action towards their own goals.

“Getting into the mountains has changed my life,” says co-founder Chantal Schauch. “I’ve seen firsthand how sharing my own transformation and climbing campaign stories have inspired individuals to take positive action in their own lives – this is what drives me every day.”

Among the ambassadors (supporters) of this new venture are professional ice climber and author, Margo Talbot, professional rock climber, Matt Maddaloni, and author, speaker and change agent, Warren MacDonald (the first double above-knee amputee to reach the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro).

The Climb For Change website allows people to share their climbs on a global climbs map, to freely post their stories, news, events, reports, photos and more at the campfire (forum), to submit posts to the feature blog, to register with the community directory, and to learn about and connect with like-minded individuals and organizations around the world.
