***About PCI Compliance: The Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard was created by major credit card companies to set high technical standards to safeguard customer information. Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and other card associations mandate that merchants and service providers meet certain standards of security when they store, process and transmit cardholder data. Our donations processing partner, IATS, fully supports and endorses this standard as a way to make credit card processing more secure for all and is certified by TrustWave Ambiron at a Level 1 which is the highest level possible. For each Climb For Change campaign, a charity registers a unique merchant account through IATS. Because the charity has access to transactions information and can make transactions through its merchant account, it is a requirement that the charity become PCI compliant and get a certificate. Since compliance is mandatory for all merchants, regardless of size, the IATS program provides the charity with the tools to assist in completing the validation process.

Is my personal info and donor data secure?

Does the charity I am campaigning for need to register a merchant account with IATS?

Yes. Registered charities in Canada, the USA or UK can use the Climb For Change fundraising campaign platform for their volunteer campaign initiatives. In order to ensure a robust, secure and transparent donations process, Climb For Change has a strategic alliance agreement with IATS to process all donations made on our fundraising campaign platform.

To use the Climb For Change fundraising platform, an IATS customer service representative will contact the charity to facilitate the set-up of a unique merchant account for the charity (documents to be supplied by the charity include verification of registered charitable status, financial statements and VOID bank cheque). Donated funds are deposited directly into the charity’s designated bank account and fees are debited from the bank account on a monthly basis thereafter. The merchant account with IATS can be closed upon completion of the campaign or continued at the charity’s discretion for additional campaigns or other fundraising initiatives.

Do donors receive an immediate transaction and/or tax receipt for their online donations?

For every donation made through our platform, a donor receives a screen confirmation and immediate email thank you message with transaction receipt. No official tax receipts are issued. The respective charity may issue a separate official tax receipt according to their respective tax jurisdiction requirements.

Does Climb For Change/IATS support Gift Aid for UK Charities?

The charity needs to administer the UK Gift Aid program directly with HM Revenue & Customs. However, it is possible to customize the campaign donation form with a question that allows the donor to choose whether or not to include gift aid with their donation. If the donor chooses yes, the charity then files the necessary paperwork. Please visit HM Revenue & Customs for information on how Gift Aid works.

There are many donations-based crowdfunding platforms out there – how is Climb For Change different?

Climb For Change is the first online fundraising campaign platform to focus on the climbing, trekking, hiking and adventuring for charity market and to provide an optimized fundraising campaign platform for such campaigns. While most online fundraising platforms available are catering to the mass market, we started Climb For Change because we realized a gap in the market place when we ran our own fundraising climbs.

Most online fundraising platforms provide currency options for their respective country only. Through our payment processing partner, IATS, we are able to provide our fundraising campaign platform to individuals campaigning for a registered charity in Canada, the USA or the UK.

We do not collect nor aggregate any donated funds. All donations made through a user’s fundraising campaign site on Climb For Change are deposited directly into the respective charity’s bank account.

Climb For Change exists first and foremost because of our passion to satisfy a market need, not to grow shareholder pockets. We love what we do and are in it for the long-term.
